May Athlete Of The Month: Amber Midgley
How long have you been at CFVF?
Just over 3 years!
What is your athletic/exercise background?
Growing up I participated in a ton of different sports including softball, lacrosse, cheerleading, swimming, soccer, and field hockey. I started lifting weights in high school. I also ran Broad Street and a half marathon in 2012 (and then promptly remembered how much I hate running).
What are your current goals?
Master double unders, connect 5+ kipping pull ups, PR my snatch at 100 lbs
What is your favorite non-CrossFit activity?
Relaxing on the beach and walking my dogs
What is your favorite food/meal?
Mozzarella cheese! Fresh and sliced for my enjoyment, mozz sticks, on a pizza, chicken parm, caprese salad... I may have a little problem ;)
What is your favorite CrossFit WOD, exercise, or lift?
Cleans and squats
What is your least favorite WOD, exercise, or lift?
Dubs and wallballs
What is your favorite thing about CFVF?
The community! I love all the support and encouragement from coaches and members alike! I definitely missed the team aspect of the sports I participated in previously and I always push harder when someone is rooting for me.
What is something most people don't know about you?
I was a cheerleading coach for 15 years, I'm a civil engineer, and I consider myself a hippie... three things that I think couldn't be more different from each other!
What changes have you seen in yourself physically/mentally since starting CrossFit?
I finally have a booty!
What advice would you give to someone just starting CrossFit?
Don't compare yourself to other people! Everyone has different backgrounds, experience levels, and strengths and it's not fair to judge your skill level against anyone else, especially as a beginner. Just focus on yourself: perfect your technique, do your best, and listen to your coaches.
